We organise guided day hikes in the Ronda Mountains with scheduled monthly departures to the Sierra El Hacho, Los Alcornocales and Grazalema Natural Parks.
Our hikes are tailored to our clients interests and abilities and range from one and a half hour nature trail suitable for children and occasional hikers to full day treks covering 20-30km and visiting sites of historical or ecological interest.
Recommended half day itineraries (3-4hours) include the Sierra El Hacho, , Valle Genal and Los Alcornocales routes which are normally followed by a delicious’ tapas’ lunch.
The El Hacho hikes offers some of the very best views across the Straits of Gibraltar on to the Moroccan Rif ( weather permitting ) and numerous hiking options of between 3-8 hours. These routes also offer great views of the Genal and Guadiaro valley and a great introduction to our unique landscape.
The Valle Genal hikes explore one of Andalusia’s best conserved river watersheds and present us with a multitude of hiking possibilities. One of the best half day options utilizes a newly opened river walk way to the Venta Saun Juan, 4/5 hours from Gaucin. The offers one of the shadiest trails and a firm favourite in the hot summer months when a win in the natural pools of the Genal river.
Los Alcornocales Natural Park is one of Europe’s most biodiverse forests and at 170,000 hectares also offers us a myriad of fantastic options. For half day itineraries the Arroyo del Canuelo hike showcases the ecological diversity of this wonderful forest and end in the 2,500 year old town of Jimena de La Frontera, visiting the Roman castle before one of its many fantastic tapas bars.
A recommend full days hike is the 22km Canyon de Las Buitreras hike which transverses the Vulture Canyon, a 250meter deep gorge and national monument named for the circling Griffon Vultures invariably using the canyons cliffs for thermals and safe sanctuary. The hike is only recommended for fitter hikers as has a few steeper and more technical sections rewarding us with some of the wildest most rugged scenery in the Iberian peninsular.
